Feel the need, the need for speed shopping? Stop navigating fast fashion in search of the newest line and try on a jumpsuit retrofitted for a maverick; tho for that, take an unorthodox stand apart from every Tom, Dick, and Harry. Cruise on down the highway to the danger zone, combat those winter blues, and rev up the look of your spring wardrobe—opposed to separates being half naked until summer breaks out into a wildly over-the-top montage of beach volleyball—that’s three supersonic styles in one shot from the original Dickies’ top gun.

Reader, you’re ready for takeoff. As a starting point, let me clear the air. All the high-flown talk of preserving the maverick appeal of the jumpsuit does not require the usual inflated accessories of fashion. Here, a simple neckerchief, neutral purse, and pair of white sandals all add a flair to the jumpsuit without much ado.
Roll up your sleeves and leave the snap-up enclosure slightly open on the front, no more than about a quarter length down from the neckline to the beltline. The dual effect makes a less-buttoned-up impression. In return, you seem way cooler; also: look more flattering in virtue of the front opening to a V-neck, drawing the eye up from the waistline to lay great stress/emphasis on the collarbone and bust in the angle of view.

The second style may have been influenced by the 2022 revival of interest in Top Gun (namely, at the urging of my husband to go get inspired by a pair of aviators) with a little spice of my own.

I find that layering necklaces can be very feminine and a bit daunting. That is, until lately. Now, they’re all ready for us, pre-layered, if you will. The one pictured on me here came from Free People (currently out of stock). I finalized the second style with the monochromatic look of a green satin bomber jacket. FYI, this jacket from Ralph Lauren is part of his collection for men. I borrow clothes from my husband’s closet all the time. So don't be surprised if you see future examples of mix and match menswear with different skirts to create new outfits.

Following are ways of styling your jumpsuit for wear during the colder months. As I am in Chicago, this look may constitute most of my actual style.

For added warmth, I wore a black bodysuit from Amazon as an undergarment, which shows that the jumpsuit is roomy enough to incorporate a base layer. I laced up a pair of combat boots. Aside from the timeless exterior design of patent leather uppers with thick rubber soles for which the brand has come to be known, these Dr. Martens have a warm and fuzzy side to them: inside lined with faux fur. To cap off the wintry mix of style, I sported a colorful beanie in a tomato hue.

FYI, I'm always trying to get an angle on camera, so I create angles with fashion lines to direct my looks. Two ways of doing so were featured today, in the V-neck and layering necklace. The concept of angling inspired my rope chain necklace with a pendant in the shape of a camera. Along the same lines, I roll up my sleeves and pants at the cuffs to give my outfit an urban touch of style and tighten up the appearance of my waistline with my fave Moschino belt.
